Crafting Immersive Experiences:
Introduction to the role of UI/UX in video games.
Presented by Lum Pui Mun
Lum Pui Mun is a Visual Design Manager at Riot Games Singapore.
This developing company is known mostly for its mobiles games like League of Legend, Legend of Runeterra and Valorant.

We first learned about the key elements of video games that fall under the responsibility of the UI/UX designer.
Spacial Immersion: A sense of presence in the "in-game location".
Social Immersion: The characters and scenarios need to feel real or make sense in the in-game universe.
Mechanical Immersion: Game Mechanics that make sense and are intuitive enough to pick quickly.
Video Game Spatial Immersion: Creating a believable, vast and engaging world.
Narrative Immersion: Understanding the story with design clues.

A game is separated in multiple phases, different game require more or less steps depending but it usually follows this order:
Planning > Pre Production > Production > Testing > Pre Launch > Launch > Post Launch.

REFLECTION
The reason why I chose to attend this lecture is because I already had a huge interest in video games and even considered going on the path of video game development. I always had this preconceived notion that I would never be able to contribute because of my minimal knowledge of coding. Miss Mun gave very interesting insight that dissipated this idea I had. There are so many different parts of a video game and by extension many roles to take over.
Video games, when well done can make you feel so many different things, I've cried while playing games, jumped in excitement while playing some and been terrified just looking at others. They are truly an underestimated medium and underappreciated art. We all have that video game we played or watched someone play when we were younger that will always stay with us like a good book or a childhood film and maybe I'd like to create something like that.
